According to the publication "Called Home" (Franklin Township Historical Society - 1999), the New Bethel Baptist Church & burial ground was established at this location about 1826.  Circa 1870, a new church building was erected on the north side of Southeastern Ave. The original New Bethel Cemetery (on the south side of Southeastern)  was then renamed Founders though no date is given for this change (possibly as late as 1910).

There are two other cemeteries, both on the north side of Southeastern. The old cemetery behind (to the north of) the present church is Fisher Cemetery. The second is Orchard Hill Cemetery, to the east of the present church building. All three cemeteries are maintained by the church.  Founders is no longer in use, the last burials having been in the 1940's.
